Bake & Pray: Advent

  • Uvalde Methodist Church 301 N . High Street Uvalde, TX (map)

“All throughout Scripture, bread serves as a sign of God’s blessing. It marks God’s presence and provision, as well as God’s promises to us. Bread is a narrative tool God uses to tell us the story of God’s work in the world.”
- Kendall Vanderslice, “Bake & Pray” pg. 3

Starting with the season of Advent, we will be baking our way through the church calendar this next year!

We will kick off the year on Saturday, December 14th, at 2 pm in the Uvalde Methodist Church gym to bake Conchas and celebrate Advent!

We will be working through the book “Bake & Pray” by Kendall Vanderslice, which has some really interesting teachings on the imagery of bread that we see throughout scripture and has some really interesting history on different recipes and church holidays!

This book is set up to teach you how to use the time that you are baking as a spiritual practice, to pray, and to meditate on God, which I hope will help encourage our participants to seek God in the simple, everyday things that we do.

This event is going to be a ton of fun!

We will do a few of these throughout the year, and they are welcome to the whole community! Bring your friends, bring your kids and grandkids, and let’s have some fun baking together!
